A beautiful new way to create art — with fabric instead of paint!
Join us for a completely different kind of creative experience as we introduce Kinusaiga, a traditional Japanese textile art technique that transforms small pieces of fabric into beautiful works of art.
Kinusaiga is sometimes referred to as “Japanese fabric painting.” Instead of using paint and a brush, pieces of fabric are carefully layered and tucked into a prepared design to create colour, texture and dimension.
The result is a beautiful piece of artwork that looks almost like a painting — but is created entirely with fabric!
WHAT IS KINUSAIGA?
Traditional Kinusaiga originated in Japan and was developed as a way to create intricate artwork using small pieces of kimono silk. Rather than sewing the fabric together, the fabric is fitted into grooves within a prepared surface, allowing the design to take shape piece by piece.
We've taken inspiration from this beautiful traditional technique and created a fun, approachable workshop where you can experience the process yourself.
And don't worry — no sewing experience is required! In fact, there is no sewing involved at all.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
During the workshop, you'll choose from the available fabric colours and patterns and learn how to use them to create your own piece of 10x10 framed Kinusaiga-inspired artwork.
I'll guide you through the process step-by-step, from working with the fabric to creating the individual sections of your design and bringing everything together into a finished piece.
You'll be amazed at how the different fabrics come together to create depth, texture and a beautiful finished image.
NO ARTISTIC EXPERIENCE NEEDED
You don't need to be an artist or have any previous experience with fabric art.
This is a relaxing, hands-on workshop where I'll guide you through each step. Come on your own, bring a friend or make it a creative night out!
